Mahjong

How to play

You can start a new game by either clicking the button "New Game", or by joining a game which has already been opened by another player. When you click on "New Game", you can decide the maximum skill level of your opponent and the arrangement of tiles. You can choose among three options: Turtle, Aquarius and Ying Yang.

Tiles can be removed from the game by clicking them away with the mouse. You have to click to tiles with the same symbol in order to remove them. However, the tiles may not be covered by any other tiles, either completely or partially. Moreover, a tile may not be blocked to the left or right by another tile. One side always has to be free.

The tiles are covered in various symbols. These can be Characters, Bamboos, Circles, Dragons and Winds. There are also sets of bonus tiles, consisting of four tiles each. Their symbols are Seasons and Flowers. Moreover, all tiles are labeled with numbers and letters in order to aid orientation.

A click on the Help button switches the select function of the tiles on and off. The tile the player clicks first turns red, and the select function is then applied to the tile(s) which match. These are marked green. The player can now decide which tile pair to click away. Using this function does not cost you any points, but you also do not get a bonus for switching it off. You can switch the select function on or off as often as you like in the course of a game.

You can also reverse your last move by clicking Undo, but this costs you penalty points. You can also use the Shuffle button to re-arrange the tiles, but this also costs penalty points. This function is especially useful when there are no more possible moves left. The Finish button can be used to quit the game if it is no longer possible to keep playing.

Rules of the game

The object of the game is to remove 144 tiles by consecutively clicking two of the same type of tile. Note that a tile may not be covered by another and the space to the left or right must be clear.

There is only one level in this game. The player who has the most points at the end wins.

The game is over once all tiles have been removed from the field, the Finish button is pressed or the time is up. If no more moves are possible, you can click Undo or Shuffle to generate other combinations. Should this not work, you must click Finish to end the game.

The scoring system

You normally get 20 points for clearing two tiles. If you clear four normal tiles (Character, Bamboo, and Circle) of the same type consecutively, you get 20 points for the first pair and 40 for the second. If the tiles are winds, you get 60 points for the second pair, 70 in the case of Dragons and 100 for bonus tiles. If you are able to e.g. clear four red Dragons consecutively, you get 20 plus 70 points.

If you can clear an entire series of tiles, whether is ascending or descending order, the points for each pair are as follows:(A series of tiles is an uninterrupted ascending or descending sequence of tiles of the same symbol, and is possible for the symbols "Character", "Bamboo" and "Circle", since these tiles are numbered 1 through 9 in addition to their symbols.)

2nd pair = 30 points3rd pair = 40 points4th pair = 60 points5th pair = 80 points6th pair = 100 points7th pair = 130 points8th pair = 160 points9th pair = 200 points
