Solitaire

Rules of the game

Solitaire is a card game for two players, played as a duel. At the start of the game, seven piles of cards are already spread out. The first pile consists of one card, the second of two etc. The rest of the deck is in the shoe, with the first card turned face-up. Cards are sorted according to the following rules:

  • Cards are placed in descending order (e.g. Nines on Tens)
  • Red and black suits alternate (e.g. Nine of Diamonds on Ten of Spades, followed by Eight of Clubs or Spades, etc.)
  • Aces are worth 1 point, so the King is the highest card.
The seven original piles have to be reduced to four, starting with the Aces according to the suits Spades, Diamonds, Clubs and Hearts. The rest of the cards in the shoe also have to be drawn and placed. Only the uppermost card can be used, followed by the cards beneath. The cards of the shoe can be called up repeatedly in rotation, but points are deducted for each round of rotation!

The object of the game is to arrange 52 cards on four piles as quickly as possible. If the player does this, then it is said that the Patience (general term for Solitaire) "succeeds". The game is over once all 52 cards have been placed on the target piles or the player sees no other possible move and chooses to end the game.

How to play

A game can be opened by clicking the button "New Game". The player who opened the game can set the maximum skill level of the desired opponent. S/he is of course also free to participate in a game already opened by another player.

Cards can be moved to a target pile by dragging them using the left mouse button. If this move is not possible the card automatically moves back to the original pile. To move several cards, simply select the highest one.

You can turn over a card by clicking on it. A click on a card which is already face up moves it to a possible location (if there are several options, one is selected at random).

Solitaire is played as a duel. The following rules apply:

  • Both players start out the same and receive the same cards per round.
  • Players can also play consecutively.
  • After you finish your game, you can watch your opponent, leave the table or even start a new round.
  • It is possible to invite other players, but opening private tables is not allowed.

The scoring system

You get 5 points for placing a card onto the table, 10 points for placing a card onto a target pile, and 10 points for turning over a card. 15 points are deducted for turning over a pile. 5 points are deducted for putting a card from a target pile back onto the table.

Loss of connection to game server

Loss of connection to the game server affects single and multiplayer games differently.

The following games are single player games: Blackjack Duel, Yatzy Duel, Mahjong, Penalty King, Pyramids, Solitaire, Solitaire Poker, Sudoku Bloxx, Sugar!, Zuminga

The following games are multiplayer games: Backgammon, 8-Ball Billiards, Differenzler Jass, Gin Rummy, Schnapsen, Skat, Snooker

Loss of connection for single-player games

For a game to be classed as won, the applicable game rules must have been adhered to

Should a player lose his/her connection, he/she has 2 minutes, in which to re-enter the game. The game clock will continue to count down while the player is disconnected. Should the 2 minutes pass before the player manages to return to the game, the last points recorded will be the final score.

Loss of connection for multiplayer games

For a game to be classed as won, the applicable game rules must have been adhered to. Furthermore, the winner of the game must have maintained a connection to the game server for the duration of the game.

Should a player lose his/her connection, he/she has 2 minutes, in which to re-enter the game. Should this be achieved, there shall be no consequences, provided that the player is not ejected from the game by the opponent for exceeding the allowed time. In the case that the 2 minute time limit is exceeded, the computer will take the ejected player's place and complete the game. The player still has the opportunity to re-enter the game.

In the case that the computer or the player who re-enters the game after the allowed time limit wins, the original stakes shall be refunded to both players. Otherwise, the game will be classed as lost. Should both players lose their connections during the game, both will receive their original stakes.
